What to Expect
In dealing with a hearing loss most are uncertain what to expect. The first step to treating hearing loss is first admitting that there actually is a hearing loss. After setting an appointment, here is what to expect during the initial visit to Lake Area Hearing Solutions.
The Hearing Instrument Specialist will conduct an assessment of your current lifestyle to help determine your specific hearing needs.
Next, the specialist will complete a physical inspection of your ear using an otoscope. If there is any heavy wax buildup or unusual physical conditions present you are referred to a physician.
Using the latest equipment, the specialist begins your hearing screening. The screening is painless and takes less than 30 minutes to complete.
• Pure Tone Air Test: Measures hearing across sound frequencies necessary for communication.
• Bone Conduction Test: Determines if your hearing difficulty is the result of an inner or middle ear function issue. If a middle ear problem exists, Dennis will refer you to a physician.
• Speech discrimination test: Determines how well you can distinguish words and sounds.
After testing is completed, Dennis carefully explains how the ear works and the nature of your hearing loss to make sure you fully understand the results of your test.
Demonstration: You’ll have the opportunity to experience what it is like to hear with the benefit of proper amplification prior to leaving the office.
Recommendation: Based on your hearing lifestyle needs and the nature of your hearing loss, Hearing Instrument Specialist Dennis Horsman will help you select the best hearing technology option.
